I remember the first time I got in my car and drove on a long out-of-state road trip, by myself.
I was nearly sixty years old. I was thrilled.
“Agency.” The capacity for action.
Everything about the word “agency” is powerful. It says you have the capacity to do things. Even those limited by physical issues, who cannot do everything, or maybe not everything you used to be able to do; remember: you can do SOME things.
And if your limitations are not physical but come from within: the accumulations of self-doubts and hurts that can be debilitating; please hold on to the healing properties of artmaking.
And the result: action. Action in any amount. Action that you choose. Action that you direct.
The whole process of artmaking. The vision. The plan. The materials. The physical doing. The evaluating. The sticking to it when it does not turn out as you hoped. The doing it again.
It is, for me, still thrilling.
I have projects in the works in my studio that await my action.
I will enjoy jumping back into them next week.
For now, I am on an out-of-state road trip, by myself, to visit my daughter and grandson.
Till next time: Happy creating.
