Our call-for-entry asked artists to be inspired by “3.”
After a two-year period to allow artists to create, then the process of jurying and putting together a cohesive exhibit, and working to secure venues to display the works, the time for exhibiting is almost here. Tomorrow I will join another volunteer in delivering our works to the Museum.
Here is how my work unfolded:
I wrote and sketched and dug into memories, deciding to tell a visual dream-based autobiography based on three doors.
The doors do not exist as real architecture. I have given them the form of real structures, but the existence of the girl-as-storyteller leads a viewer to understand these structures differently.
This is door #1. The home of my childhood.
This is door #2. The home of my married life.
This is door #3. The home where I am now
Together they constitute a journey. I composed the work with a diagonal sidewalk to invite the viewer to walk through the story, possibly listening to the messages of the observant birds.
Three Yellow Doors Textile Collage / Art Quilt 48” x 58”
I am delighted this work is part of TRIO, a juried SAQA Regional Exhibit representing textile artists in three regions: Florida – Georgia – South Carolina. Because I have had an insider’s view of the works in the show, I know they represent a wonderful variety of quilt-making methods and a rich and diverse group of stories.
If you are near central Florida, I hope you’ll find a chance to visit Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens while the exhibit is showing. (December 18 - March 1)
You can also see the works, and read the artists’ stories, in our online gallery here:

For all of us: focus each day
on the good that needs to be done in the world.
Be part of doing it.
Thank you for reading. I always enjoy questions and comments.
