ROOTED DISCOVERIES

This is the first 8” square of a larger work that will be constructed of 35 squares, each with different stitching patterns. Taking a coffee break, I paused to look at the pattern.  I printed the images — acrylics on muslin —using natural roots pulled from the garden. Marvelously intricate! The richness and complexity of these natural forms is amazing to trace. (And tracing the shapes was my stitching pattern for this square.) Organic undefined shapes. Geometric shapes formed by overlapping roots. Different from anything I would draw from my head. Together, the squares will present an image of layered complexity. I’ll keep sharing as it progresses.
