The story of this tree. . .

Early this year, when the trees in our yard had not yet sprouted spring leaves, I was struck by the small oak tree outside my studio window. This one small tree, with its complexity of limbs, suggested whole forests of trees and limbs.

Then, weeks into the artmaking and fabric-printing inspired by the tree, I discovered a poet’s words that give voice to exactly what I was feeling. “The oak tree seemed to be writing something using very few words.” (From “The World,” by Marie Howe)

As I hand printed complex panels of printed trees, quilted them and stitched them together, I was absorbed in the depth of communication I was discovering from the images I photographed from one small tree.

The quilt includes a hanging rod with two D-rings on the back in an attached pocket. It installs easily, hanging from two nails or picture hooks. My quilts are shipped rolled, carefully packed by the artist. Upon arrival, simply unroll and hang.
