Water calls to me. I am drawn to our local Florida springs to immerse myself in crystal, cold water, and I hoped to capture the feel of water. Experimenting with hand-printing using stencils, resists and acrylic paints on a whole cloth panel of sheer polyester, unpredictable patterns suggesting water and sunlight took shape. It evolved into an environment that seemed a perfect invitation for a small boat.

The experience of stitching  the surface was an experience of involvement with the surface. The sheer fabric wanted to move and ripple like water. The resulting surface enhances the water-and-light patterns I had created by printing.

This work is finished as an art quilt: fabric bound edge and fabric-backed.  The back has a pocket and slat for hanging display.

Techniques: Painting with acrylics on sheer polyester, collage, machine stitching.
