This quilt is one of 40 works juried into the SAQA Global Exhibit “Haven.” It will premiere at the Houston Quilt Festival in October, 2022 and then travel for approximately two years. It is available for purchase, with shipment after the completion of the exhibition travels.

Safe harbor is a gift that women are able to give to one another. I am deeply grateful for the counsel of strong women who have provided a landing place for me when my journey required it. Shelter from the storm need not be a place; it can be a person. Now, the group of women in my writing group provide me weekly refuge. I am learning again the strength to be found when women depend on each other.

Original fabrics: hand printed (monotypes, relief prints, resists and stencils) with acrylic paint on cotton muslin and sheer fabrics, collaged and stitch construction, with machine stitched details. Finishing: bound fabric-backed. The back has a hanging pocket and a rod, for traditional hanging tapestry presentation without frame. All collaging is with archival matte acrylic medium, which also protects the surface
