They Built Their House of Twigs II– 2-panel Art Quilt

$3,800.00

40”H x 67”

An image of a home.

Images of twigs and vines.

This work explores concepts that I have thought about and developed in various ways over several years.

Suggestions of a story: a character or characters (sometimes presented as birds) and some movement through the piece. (The photographs of the fence, the door and the complex tangles through a light-filled window are real places. I have stood beside these places and captured the image, waiting for a work into which to insert their meanings.)

Created in two panels, this large work has a dense, complex surface with rich colors. It invites you to enter the world the birds have built from their branches and twigs.

I invite you to explore: through the gate, through the door, and into the experience of the birds in this setting.

Monotype printing by hand and direct painting with archival acrylic paints. Includes photo transfer, relief printing, resist printing, stencils and direct painting. Collage construction and machine stitching and quilting. The entire surface is richly textured with quilting stitching.

Finishing: fabric-bound edges and faric-backed. The back of each panel has a hanging pocket and a rod, for traditional hanging tapestry presentation. Hangs easily like two pictures side-by-side. Each panel hangs independently. All collaging is with archival matte acrylic medium, (which is invisible) and also protects the surface.

This work has been juried for exhibit in the Fifth Annual Lagrange Regional at LaGrange Museum of Art, LaGrange, Georgia, February 24 - April 20, 2024.
