Storms — meteorological or metaphorical — can knock us off our feet, requiring resilience and survival skills to get through to the other side.

The composition was inspired by images I had printed of twisted, interlocking tree limbs. Filling the dark sky they connote change and force: the elements of storms. Into each home there is the presence of the limbs as well as the touch of lightning. The houses are depicted as childlike forms. But surviving storms is an experience both for children and grownups.

This work is finished as an art quilt: fabric bound edge and fabric-backed.  The back has a pocket and slat for hanging display.

Techniques: Surface design using acrylic paints and stencils on cotton muslin; collage, machine stitched construction and quilting.
