SECRET GARDEN – ART QUILT

Imagine a secret garden in a city. It would include actual things you could see and describe: Bricks. Sun through leaves. Gates.

It would also include things you remember that were less specific: the feel of the air in the shadows. The smell of wet foliage. How you felt being there. An interesting exploration, or a discovery filled with emotion and history?

I worked to put together a mix of those things in “Secret Garden.”

Hand printed (monotypes, relief prints, resists and stencils) with acrylic paint on cotton muslin and sheer fabrics, collaged and stitch construction, with machine stitched details. Transfer of photograph to muslin. Finishing: bound fabric-backed. The back has a hanging pocket and a rod, for traditional hanging tapestry presentation without frame. All collaging is with archival matte acrylic medium, which is also used to protect the surface. 

This artwork was juried into “The Alchemy of Art” show at Florida CraftArt in St. Pete, Florida and exhibited May through June, 2023.
