Determined to use up the yards of kraft wrapping paper accumulated from received shipments, I practiced some loose still life sketches. I set up a few favorite household items and drew them. I was amazed at the energy created by ripping the sketch in thirds. I was also interested in the technical challenge of collaging mixed papers (upcycled kraft, tissue paper and rice paper) into a textile artwork. As the composition and collaging evolved, the static setting for the objects became more layered and complex. Now, more than a depiction of objects, I see this work as a depiction of life in a home. Pleasing. Simple. Grounded. Subject to change and disruption.

Hand drawn and hand printed (monotypes, resist prints, stencil prints) with acrylic paint on cotton muslin, collaged and stitch construction, with machine stitched details. Finishing: bound fabric-backed. The back has a hanging pocket and a rod, for traditional hanging tapestry presentation. All collaging is with archival matte acrylic medium, which is also used over the surface. The papers and fabrics have bonded together in the collage process to become durable.
