A journey through a personal family history and a larger history. Inspired by a photo of my mother with her father, taken when she was seven years old. It is woven into memories of his family home, the Southern house depicted. She was not alive during the era of that home’s prominence, just as I was not alive in the time of the photo of her with her father. But all of this legacy was important to my mother, who carried it forward to her children as her understanding of America. It is to me a dream, both in the sense of something that is longed for and something that is not quite real.

Techniques: Drawing, collage, painting, hand monotype printing, transfer of original photos to fabric, screen printing, machine stitching
